Use the knife to whittle both ends of the dowels to 1/4 inch in diameter. Whittle 1/2 inch down on each end of four dowels and 1 inch down on each end of 10 dowels.
Drill a hole in each end of the 11-inch plywood strips, in the middle of the 1-inch side.
Drill a 1/4-inch hole in each end of the 28-inch plywood strips, in the middle of the 1-inch side, then drill a 1/4-inch hole at 9 inches from one end and at 10 inches from the same end.
Drill a 1/4-inch hole in one end of the 35-inch plywood strips, in the middle of the 1-inch side, then drill a 1/2-inch hole at 11 inches from one end, a 1/4-inch hole at 19 inches from the same end and a 1/2-inch hole at 27 inches from the same end.
Remove all the rough edges and splinters by sanding.
Begin the assembly by laying two of the 35-inch plywood strips on the floor parallel to each other, about 18 inches apart. Lay two of the 11-inch strips on top of the 35-inch pieces at the 19-inch holes. Lay two of the 28-inch plywood strips crossing each other, on top of the 35-inch and 11-inch pieces, lining up the top holes with the top holes of the 35-inch strips and the bottom holes with the end holes of the 11-inch strips. Lay two 11-inch strips on top of the 28-inch pieces at the 9-inch holes, forming an inverted V.
Put a dab of carpenter’s glue in each of the 35-inch plywood strips’ holes at 11 inches and 27 inches and insert the four 1/2-inch dowels into the holes. Be careful with the assembly at this point since it's not completely connected and you don’t want to knock the pieces out of place.
Insert the rest of the dowels into the other holes, rubbing the whittled ends with waxed paper first to make them fit more easily. Push them all the way into the holes to connect the plywood strips.
Repeat Step 6 with the rest of the plywood strips, and put a dab of carpenter’s glue in each of the 35-inch plywood strips’ holes at 11 inches and 27 inches. Carefully pick up the first assembly with the dowels, hold it over the plywood strip assembly on the floor, and push the ends of the dowels into the holes. The rack is on its side at this point. Carefully pick it up and set it upright so four ends of the 35-inch legs are sitting on the floor. Let it dry for 24 hours before using it.
