The Capacity of the GE WHDSR209DWW

General Electric's WHDSR209DWW model washer is a standard-sized washer with a 3.2-cubic-foot capacity. This machine is able to wash more laundry in fewer loads, even if you're washing bath towels or jeans. However, as a mid-sized washer, it can't handle bulky or oversized items like comforters.
  1. Capacity

    • General Electric's WHDSR209DWW washer, which is no longer available from the company, is a super capacity model that offers 3.2 cubic feet of space for washing linens and clothing. This mid-sized washing machine is one cubic foot bigger than the smallest washers GE offers. However, it's smaller than the largest capacity machine manufactured by the company, which is 4.5 cubic feet.

    Significance

    • The GE WHDSR209DWW is capable of routine household laundry. Although GE doesn't give a real-life example of what kind of load its washer will handle, a similar 3.2-cubic-foot washer from Kenmore claims to fit up to 14 regular-sized bath towels, for example. General Electric does recommend at least a 3.5-cubic-foot washer for king-sized comforters and quilts, however. You can still visit a laundromat if you have oversized items, or invest in larger machines for business purposes.

    Water Levels

    • The WHDSR209DWW offers four different water levels that correspond to the size of your laundry load. The washing machine allows you to specify smaller load sizes if you need to clean less laundry. Choose a water level that just covers your laundry in the washer basket. Also use smaller amounts of cleaning detergent for smaller loads to ensure the washer can fully rinse out the soap.

    Warning

    • Overloading your washing machine can prevent water from circulating between items and fully cleaning your clothes and linens. GE advises to not load clothes above the top line of holes in the washing machine, where the washer fills with water. Furthermore, balance linens around the agitator of the machine so that it gyrates and spins evenly. An unbalanced machine may stop working, causing you to have to open it and move wet laundry to rebalance it.
