How to Bypass a Spin Switch on a Kenmore Washer

Kenmore top-loading washers, like many washers, have a lid sensor that prevents the washer from running with the lid open. You can override this sensor so the washer will operate with the lid open. However, if you want to disable the spinning of the washer compartment, you'll need to simply disconnect the sensor wires. This is useful for troubleshooting or if you plan on taking apart the entire washer.

Instructions

Unplug the washing machine. Remove the screws holding the front control panel in place. If you do not see screws, pop off the small plastic covers on the edges covering the screws. Some models may have plastic clips as well; use the tip of the screwdriver to pop out these clips.

Lift the control panel cover off to reveal wiring underneath. Some models will have covers that flip upwards while remaining connected.

    • 3

Locate the wire harness on the right side of the control panel compartment. Gently pull the two harness pieces apart.

Put the cover back on to complete the process.
