Installation of a Propane Nozzle on an LG Dryer

Making DIY repairs to home appliances can save you money and time. Thanks to the wide availability of information on the Internet, making repairs to your own appliances is relatively simple. Installing a new propane nozzle on an LG dryer, for instance, requires little more than a visit to one very handy website and an hour or so of work on the dryer itself.
  1. Gas Dryers

    • Gas dryers use the same fuel as appliances such as gas stoves, boilers and furnaces by hooking up directly to your home's gas supply via a nozzle. Dryers burn gas to generate heat used to dry clothes, much like furnaces burn gas to generate warm air for circulation throughout the home. LG manufactures a range of electric/gas dryers capable of using both gas and electrical power supplies. The location of the gas orifice on an LG dryer depends on the particular model of dryer.

    Propane Nozzle

    • LG electric/gas dryers come with two types of gas nozzles, one for propane and one for natural gas. The type of gas supplied to your home by the local gas grid determines the type of nozzle you actually use with the dryer. There are two reasons for installing a new propane nozzle on a dryer: replacing an old, worn-out nozzle and switching a dryer from natural gas to propane. You use the same installation procedure regardless of the reason for installing the new nozzle.

    Schematic Diagrams

    • The website Sears Parts Direct contains schematic diagrams and parts lists for all appliances available at Sears locations and through the vendor's online store (see the Reference section). Find the schematic diagrams for your specific model of LG dryer by entering the serial number for your dryer, available in the owner's manual or on a metal plate on the dryer itself, into the query bar on the Sears Parts Direct website. Download and print the schematic diagram labeled “drum and motor parts assembly.” Schematic diagrams for appliances contain detailed drawings of all parts in an appliance, and how those parts fit together.

    Replacing the Nozzle

    • You can purchase a replacement propane nozzle for your LG gas dryer from the Sears Parts Direct website; the same page that contains schematic diagrams contains a parts list and links for purchasing replacements for each part. Locate and remove the existing propane or natural gas nozzle from your dryer using the schematic diagram as a guide for finding and removing the part. Install the new nozzle in place of the old part and reassemble the dryer, again using the schematic diagram as a guideline. Remember to always cut the power to appliances before working on them.
