How to Troubleshoot a Roper Electric Heavy-Duty Dryer

As a subsidiary of the Whirlpool Corporation, Roper Appliances sells both gas and electric washers and dryers for home use. If you experience problems when using your Roper heavy-duty electric dryer, you can work on troubleshooting and fixing those issues on your own and perhaps avoid a service call. You can try several things that require no mechanical expertise.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the dryer door and give it a firm close before pushing the “Start” button. If the door is not closed securely or the button is not pushed firmly, the dryer will not run.

    • 2

Reset any tripped circuit breakers in the breaker box or blown fuses in the fuse box if the dryer won’t run or will run but not heat. Only use a time-delay fuse if you have to change a fuse.

    • 3

Look inside the dryer for loose foreign objects, if you are hearing strange noises. Things like coins or keys left in pockets can be the source.

    • 4

Bend down and adjust the nuts on the legs, if your dryer is rocking back and forth because it is not level. You may need a wrench, if you cannot manually loosen the nuts.

    • 5

Clean off the lint screen manually, if your dryer is not drying in the normal amount of time or if you have lint on the dry clothes.

    • 6

Remove all but fabric softener sheet from the dryer because excess sheets can block the grille, which results in drying problems.

    • 7

Move the cycle selector control knob to a cycle that is not “Air Dry,” if you are having drying problems. This cycle does not produce any heat and will result in your laundry remaining damp.

    • 8

Redistribute or remove some laundry if the machine is too full. Overloading the dryer can result in the laundry not getting dry or in noises from the laundry getting balled up and hitting the sides of the dryer drum.
