Locate the model number for your dryer. Kenmore models typically have the number on the back of the unit or on the inside wall of the door. Use the model number to order a thermal fuse directly from Kenmore or from your local appliance store.
Unplug the dryer from the wall, and pull it out so you can access the back. Never attempt repairing a dryer that is still plugged in.
Remove the vent tubing from the back of the dryer. Set it aside to reattach later. This isn't strictly necessary in many models, but it will make the process easier.
Locate the screws that attach the back access panel to the dryer. Unscrew them and then pull the panel away. Watch the edges, as they can be sharp on older Kenmore models.
Look for a small plastic bar attached to two wires, resembling one face of your new fuse. In most Kenmore models, it should be located near where the vent hose was attached.
Loosen the screws that connect the wires to your old fuse, and then pull the fuse free.
Set the new fuse in position. Mount the wires on its screws. Tighten the screws to secure the wires into position.
Put the access panel and vent hose back into position, and then plug your dryer in. Try turning on your dryer to test it before sliding the dryer back into place.
