How to Open the Kenmore Elite HE3 Dryer for Repairs

With its variable options and rack for shoes and other delicate items, the Kenmore Elite HE3 dryer is designed to handle almost any drying task. Should any of the internal parts fail, you or a technician will need to open up the appliance to begin your repairs. Most parts are located under the top cover or behind the cover below the door. You should be able to open up the appliance for your repair needs in under 10 minutes.

      Unplug the power cord and shut off the gas supply if you own a gas model. Move the dryer a few inches away from the wall so you can reach the rear panel.

      Remove the three screws on the back edge of the top panel and set them to one side. Pull the cover backward and lift it off the dryer to reveal the back of the control panel and the top of the drum.

      Open the dryer door, lift the lint screen out of its slot and close the door. Remove the screw located in each of the bottom corners below the door and set them to one side. Pull out and down to remove the toe panel and reveal the motor and ducting.
