How to Repair a Kenmore Drain Line

Kenmore has been a well-known name in home washing machines since 1927. Any brand of washing machine can develop drain line problems, especially if the line itself or the outflow pipe becomes clogged. There are two water lines, hot and cold, that connect from the water supply pipes on the wall to the back of the washer. The drain line is connected to an outflow pipe in the laundry room.

Things You'll Need

  • Towels
  • Pliers
  • New drain line (if needed)

Instructions

    • 1

Turn off the water supply on the wall behind the Kenmore washing machine.

    • 2

Unplug the washing machine from the wall electrical outlet and slide it out so the back of the machine can be accessed.

    • 3

Spread the towels on the floor behind the washing machine, beneath the drain line.

    • 4

Remove the drain line from the bottom of the Kenmore washer with the pliers. If there is any water pooled on the floor, inspect the drain line to make sure it isn't cracked or torn. If it is damaged, replace it.

    • 5

Remove the clip holding the other end of the drain line to the outflow tube.

    • 6

Spread the drain line out on a flat surface and attach the end of the air compressor hand blower attachment to one end of the drain line. Squeeze the handle of the blower to blast a burst of air through the line. This will blow out any clog in the line.

    • 7

Attach one end of the cleaned-out drain line to the outflow pipe with the clip. Screw the other end back onto the washing machine and tighten it with the pliers.

    • 8

Turn the water lines back on, scoot the machine back into place and plug it back into the wall electrical outlet.
