What Can Be Stored in the Pedestal for a GE Washer?

Many GE front-loading washing machines either come with a pedestal or can be secured to a pedestal, lifting the washer up off the floor and adding a storage drawer in the pedestal itself. Some things can be stored in the pedestal drawer and other things are not recommended for storage.
  1. Laundry Detergents

    • Among the best things to store in the pedestal drawer are laundry detergents and additives. However, do not store liquid detergents that may spill or leak if the washer's vibration makes them topple. Powdered detergent and additives are best to store in the pedestal drawer.

    Laundry Accessories

    • Laundry accessories, such as a dryer rack, fabric softener ball or other items that are not used for every load can be stored here. You could also store fabric softener sheets in the drawer; avoid storing liquid fabric softener, as it might leak.

    Storage

    • The pedestal drawer can be used for other non-liquid items stored in the laundry room, such as clean cloths or rags. Dry cleaning products not specifically designed for the laundry can be stored in the pedestal as long as the cleaning product will not react to the heat, vibration or potential moisture from the machine.

    Chemicals or Solvents

    • Do not store chemicals, solvents or any other potentially hazardous material in the pedestal drawer, as the heat of the washing machine while in use, as well as potential water leaks, could cause significant damage or even a chemical leak. Storing chemical items and solvents well away from the washing machine area is best.
