How to Change the Latch on a Whirlpool Cabrio Dryer

Whirlpool Cabrio dryers load clothes through the door in the front of the appliance. The door is equipped with a metal spring clip that latches into the front panel surrounding the door. This prevents the door from swinging open during the drying cycles. If the metal clip breaks or bends beyond repair, or if the nylon latch in the front panel is cracked or broken, these parts must be replaced before the door will close securely. Order the latch parts from Whirlpool or buy them from an appliance store.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Cabrio door and let the dryer cool if it has been in use.

    • 2

Use needle nose pliers to grab the V-shaped metal clip on the inside of the door in the upper left corner as you face the open door. Pull the clip out of the rectangular opening in the dryer door.

    • 3

Squeeze the ends of the new clip and pop it into the opening in the dryer door. The clip swings open to hold it securely in the door.

    • 4

Using needle nose pliers, grip the nylon latch on the front panel's door frame. Twist the latch back and forth to remove it from the rectangular opening.

    • 5

Align the new latch with the opening in the door frame and press with your fingertips until it clicks into position.

    • 6

Close the dryer door so the clip engages with the latch.
