Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the GE washer's power cord from the electrical outlet. Pull the washing machine away from the wall. Turn off the water supply and disconnect the water supply hoses from the appliance. Lower the drain hose to the bucket and allow any water in the hose to drain into it.

    • 2

Disconnect the drain hose from the washing machine using a pair of channel-lock pliers to release the hose clamp. Insert a flat-tip screwdriver into the seam of the top and the front panel of the GE Profile washer. This will release the retaining clips so that you can pull the front panel away from the machine. The clips will coincide with the seams on the sides of the washer lid.

    • 3

Remove the screws from the pump at the bottom of the washing machine using a socket and ratchet and set the pump aside. Place a blanket on the floor and tilt the washing machine backward so that it is lying on the blanket on its back. Remove the retaining screws from the bottom panel using a Phillips screwdriver. Set the panel aside, out of the way.

    • 4

Clean any rust, dirt and other debris away from the pulleys on the motor and clutch using sandpaper. Place the new belt around the clutch pulley, and then on the right side of the gear case pulley. Turn the gear case pulley clockwise and work the belt onto it. When you install the belt, make sure the “V” of the belt is against the pulley. Loosen the motor retaining bolts using a socket and ratchet only if you need to apply more tension to the belt.

    • 5

Place the bottom panel on the washing machine and install the retaining screws using a Phillips screwdriver. Stand the GE profile washer upright. Reinstall the washing machine pump and tighten the retaining screws using a socket and ratchet.

    • 6

Place the front panel on the washing machine and snap it into place so the retaining clips lock. Connect the drain hose to the washing machine using the channel-lock pliers to secure the hose clamp. Connect the water supply hoses to the washing machine and plug in the electrical cord to the outlet. Push the machine into place against the wall and run it for a short cycle to test the new belt.
