How to Find a Leak in a GE Profile Washing Machine

Many of the newer models of GE Profile washers exceed federal energy guidelines. This means that not only do these washers save energy but they also save you money when you receive your monthly electricity or water bills. Of course, if you find that your GE Profile washer has a leak, you may end up paying more for your water bill than you were planning.

Instructions

Look around the front of the GE Profile washer to see whether there is water on the floor, particularly when a washer is overloaded with too much clothing. Overloading a washer may cause leaks that could easily be avoided by not placing more in the washer than is necessary.

    • 2

Check all fill and drain hoses that are connected to the washer. The drain hose extends from the top left of the rear of the washer. The drain pump from which it extends is at the front middle. Make sure the connections on the fill hoses are tight. This means the connections that link the hose to the washer and the connections that link the home's water supply to the hose. Leaks often stem from these sources.

Do not stuff the drain hose into the drainpipe. The water that must drain from the washer cannot drain properly if the hose is crammed into the drainpipe. Lightly hang the drain hose on the pipe. This allows water to freely flow without spurting out of the pipe. GE Profile washing machines come with a U-shaped plastic piece that you can insert onto the end of the drain hose to make it easier to hand the hose in the drainpipe.

Use only high-efficiency detergent or you may find that suds overtake the washer drum may and cause soap and water to leak from the lid. Follow the detergent manufacturer's recommendations when adding detergent to the washer. The GE Profile dispenses detergent as well as liquid chlorine bleach and liquid fabric softener at separate times during the cycle.
