Power down your washing machine. Pull it away from the wall and unplug it. Never attempt to do any maintenance or repairs with the washer still plugged in.
Move the washing machine so you can safely get behind it. Shut down the water supply to the washer so you can work without fear of causing a flood.
Locate and remove the screws that secure the top panel of the washing machine to the back panel, using the screwdriver. The location of these screws varies from model to model. Lift the top panel off the rear of the washing machine and set it aside.
Open the front of the washing machine as far as you can and locate the groove in the door. Insert a small flat-head screwdriver into the groove to pry up the clamp holding the door seal in place.
Apply a small amount of spray lubricant to a clean, soft cloth and apply it liberally to the entire surface of the door seal gasket. If your washer uses more than one gasket, lubricate both gaskets thoroughly. Allow the lubricant to soak into the surface of the gasket; reapply as needed. Only use a lubricant designed for use in washing machines.
