Kenmore Oasis High-Efficiency Washer With a Leak at the Bottom

The Kenmore Oasis high-efficiency washer is a top-loading consumer machine. Just as with any other washing machine, the Oasis machine can start to leak from the bottom. There are a few simple troubleshooting steps you can take that might save you a call to an appliance repair professional.

Instructions

    • 1

Look at your container of laundry detergent. If your detergent is not meant for high-efficiency machines, this is probably the cause of your leak. You should use only high-efficiency, or HE, detergent in your washer. Changing your detergent should stop the leak.

Check the display panel to see if you selected “Stain Treatment” as an option after the wash cycle was going. If so, this could be the cause of the leak. You should select this option only with a completely dry load of laundry.

    • 3

Inspect the floor drain, sink and drainpipe for the source of the leak. If any of these is slow or clogged, the water can back up and spill out onto your laundry room floor, making it look like your washer is leaking from the bottom. You may need some gloves or household drain cleaner to remove any clogs.

Shift the washer so that you can view the water inlet hoses where they connect to the rear of the washer. If the leak happens when the washer is filling, the hoses may be leaking water to the floor, where it runs under the machine so it looks like the machine is leaking from the bottom. If this is the source of the leak, tighten the hose connections with a wrench to stop the leak.
