Frigidaire Front Loader Spin Noise

If you hear a sound or several sounds coming from your Frigidaire front-loading washer when it is operating, this may not necessarily be a source of concern. In some instances, the sounds you hear may indicate that something is not working properly, but usually these sounds are normal and should not be a reason to worry.
  1. High-Pitched Noise

    • You may hear a high-pitched noise that sometimes sounds like a jet engine starting up when the washer spins. This is a normal sound that periodically occurs and is caused by the motor whining during the spin cycle. However, if the sound is persistent throughout the course of the wash cycle, you may need to adjust or replace the motor.

    Thumping Noise

    • A loud thumping noise sometimes occurs when your washer begins the spin cycle. This thumping noise isn't necessarily a cause for concern, but you can eliminate it. Thumping sounds are typically due to an unbalanced load inside the washer's drum. Open the washer door and redistribute the items inside so they are evenly spaced throughout the drum then restart the washer. The thumping sound should subside.

    Rattling and Clanking Noises

    • The rattling or clanking noises you hear, as the washer spins, are from loose items inside the drum. These items may include loose change, buttons or pins knocking against the sides of the drum as it spins. If you open the washer and do not find any loose items, the sound may be caused by metal items inside the drum, such as zippers or belt buckles.

    Vibrating Noise

    • The vibration sound that you hear when your Frigidaire washer spins is from either the washer being on an uneven surface or the washer's feet not being level with one another. Avoid placing the washer on a rug or carpet. If it is already on a flat floor, place a level on top of the washer to see which way the appliance leans. Use a wrench to turn the feet so they are at even levels.
