How to Hook Up a Power Cord to a Heating Element on a GE Profile Dryer

The GE Profile dryer is an all-electric appliance that uses a coiled-metal heating element in conjunction with a motorized blower to dry your laundry. The heating element is wired with a terminal block that contains four connections to hook up a four-prong power cord. The heavy-duty cord delivers 240 volts of electricity from a dedicated wall outlet in the laundry room. Hook up the power cord yourself so you won't have to pay a repair technician to complete this simple wiring job for you.

Instructions

    • 1

Remove the electrical plate from the bottom of the back of the GE Profile dryer, using a nut driver to remove the bolts.

    • 2

Unscrew and remove the four nuts on the bolts mounted on the terminal block inside the compartment behind the electrical plate. The block is below the heating element. Three of the bolts are in the center of the block. The fourth is to the left, on the dryer frame. This is for the green-and-gold-striped ground wire.

    • 3

Push the four wires with looped metal connectors on one end of the power cord through the front of the electric plate so the wires extend 6 inches through the back of the plate.

    • 4

Twist the screw in the clamp on the back of the plate to tighten the clamp around the power cord. This helps prevent the cord from pulling out of the Profile once it is hooked up.

    • 5

Slide a bolt through the metal loop on the ground connector and secure it to the ground terminal to the left of the terminal block, using the nut driver.

    • 6

Attach the white wire to the center terminal and secure it with a nut. Fasten the black wire to the terminal on the left of the white wire. Attach the red wire to the remaining post.

    • 7

Connect the electrical plate to the back of the Profile using the bolts you removed in Step 1.

    • 8

Plug in the new power cord to the round outlet.
