Set the sensor cycle by pressing “Sensor Dry,” then press the “Dry Temp” up or down keys on the control pad to choose the desired dryness temperature. Note that you must set the desired dry temperature and dryness level for the specific load in order for the moisture sensor to dry to the desired level.
Use the arrow keys on the top or bottom of the "Dry Temperature" lever to set the desired drying temperature. Choose “Regular” for most cotton items or fabric marked “Tumble Dry” on the fabric tag; “Medium” for permanent press items or lightweight cottons; “Delicate” for those marked “Tumble Dry Low” or “Warm” on the fabric care tag; or “Extra Low” for very delicate items. Then use the arrow button to select the desired dryness level. “Very Dry” is best for large, bulky items such as bedding or towels; “Normal” is good for most clothing items; and “Damp Dry” is best for those items that should only be partially dried. Close the dryer door and push “Start” to begin.
Empty out the dryer and look near the lint screen for two metal bars that face the inside of the dryer. These metal bars are the moisture sensors. Dampen a clean cloth with rubbing alcohol and rub the cloth gently over the sensors to remove any lint or debris that might build up as a result of fabric softener sheets and other residue from clothes in the dryer. Let the sensors dry thoroughly before running the dryer.
The dryer may need to be reset if the moisture sensors do not work even after being cleaned. Disconnect the power cord to the Maytag dryer and wait one or two minutes, then reconnect the power cord. Push “Sensor Dry,” then choose the desired dry temperature and dryness level and push “Start.” Contact Maytag if the moisture sensors do not seem to be working after the reset.
