How to Access the Door Switch on an Inglis Dryer

The Inglis is a model of electric clothes dryer manufactured by Whirlpool. Like other Whirlpool dryers, this model has a pressure switch built into the door frame. Opening the door also opens the switch, breaking the circuit and shutting off the dryer. The wiring connects to the switch inside the Inglis behind the door panel, which must be removed to access this part. Opening the dryer cabinet takes less than half an hour using basic tools.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the Inglis far enough from the wall to unplug the power cord. Wait for the dryer to cool if it has been in use.

    • 2

Lift the cover on the lint screen on the right-rear corner of the Inglis top to pull out the screen by its handle.

    • 3

Remove the two screws under the screen.

    • 4

Slip the end of a flat-blade screwdriver into the crevice in the top-right corner of the Inglis where the top fits with the front panel. Pry up the corner 1 inch. Repeat with the left corner.

    • 5

Grab the V-shaped clip in each raised corner with the needle-nose pliers and pull out. This releases the top of the Inglis, which can now be raised on hinges toward the rear of the appliance.

    • 6

Take out the screws on the right and left edges of the Inglis front panel.

    • 7

Pull down and forward on the panel gently to release it from the side walls.

    • 8

Reach behind the Inglis front panel on the right side to grip the plastic plug connected to the socket on the back of the door and wired on the other end to the dryer. Pull the plug to disconnect the wires from the dryer switch.

    • 9

Turn the panel around to access the Inglis door switch, which will be on the left side of the round door frame as you view it from the rear of the panel.
