My Admiral Washer Is Not Cycling

Admiral washing machines, like almost all other washers, run in cycles. Each cycle has its own dedicated purpose; wash cycles add detergent to the washer and agitate the clothes, rinse cycles rinse out the clothes to remove all soap and the spin cycle removes as much water from the clothes as possible before drying. Washing machine cycles are controlled by timers and water level switches. If any parts are not functioning properly the unit will not advance cycles when appropriate.
  1. Water Supply

    • Cold water must enter the machine for it to advance properly between cycles. The cold water supply runs from the plumbing in your laundry room to the back of the washing machine via a hose. Check the water supply hose for kinking or clogs. Ensure the water supply is turned on. A faulty water level switch may not detect that water is entering the unit. The water level switch is connected to the timer and runs down the machine. It determines when the water is at the right level for the washer to advance.

    Timer

    • The timer installed in the control panel advances the washing machine between cycles on a set schedule. A faulty timer will not advance the machine. To test the switch, you must remove the control panel from your unit. Once off, the wires must be disconnected. Test the terminals of the switch by touching them with the probes of a multimeter. The probe should say zero or infinity depending on the setting of the timer. If not, the timer must be replaced.

    Power Issues

    • The washer needs enough power to advance. Check the circuit breaker to see if it has tripped. Make sure the unit is plugged into a wall outlet providing 220 volts. If not, plug the washer into another outlet. Check the power cord for signs of damage. A small break in the line may cause power surges that prevent the washer from advancing a cycle.

    Troubleshooting

    • If the washer still does not advance open the unit and reset the timer dial. If issues continue, call a repair technician. There may be something wrong with the motor.
