How to Replace the Cycling Thermostat on a Duet Dryer

The cycling thermostat, or high-limit thermostat, controls the length of time the Duet dryer heating element stays on. If the machine is not heating or taking too long to dry a load, you may have to replace the thermostat. This will require some disassembly of the dryer cabinet.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the Duet dryer power cord from the outlet. Find the securing screws on each end of the lower panel at the bottom. Remove the screws with a nut driver, and pull the lower panel away from the dryer.

    • 2

Pull the wires off the terminal spades of the cycling thermostat. The cycling thermostat is on the side of the heating can on the lower right of the dryer. There is a red/white wire and a black wire connected to the cycling thermostat. Always pull wires at the ends where they connect to the terminal spades to avoid breaking the wires.

    • 3

Remove the two hex screws securing the cycling thermostat to the side of the heating can with the nut driver. Grab the thermostat and turn it counter-clockwise until the tabs release from the heating can. Pull the cycling thermostat away from the dryer.

    • 4

Insert the new cycling thermostat into the side of the heating can, lining up the tabs with the notches on the can. Turn the thermostat clockwise until it stops.

    • 5

Push the wire ends onto the two terminal spades on the cycling thermostat. The red/white wire goes on the upper terminal. Push the wires until they are firmly on the terminal spades.

    • 6

Reposition the lower panel under the front panel of the dryer, and secure it with the two retaining screws. Plug the power cord back into the dryer outlet.
