LG Washer Bleach Dispenser Is Stuck

LG washing machines have a detergent dispenser that can hold liquid or powdered laundry detergent as well as liquid chlorine bleach and fabric softener. The drawer has inserts to keep the various laundry products from combining with each other, and the dispenser automatically releases the products into the washing machine at specific points during the cycle. If the bleach dispenser seems stuck, some troubleshooting might be helpful.
  1. Bleach Compartment

    • Locate the bleach compartment in the dispenser drawer to verify that bleach is being added to the correct compartment in the washing machine dispenser drawer. The bleach insert is located in the rear of the drawer on the left side. When closing the dispenser drawer, do not slam the drawer into place as this can cause problems with dispensing.

    Filling the Bleach Compartment

    • The bleach compartment in the dispenser drawer is only meant for use with liquid chlorine bleach. Other types of bleach, including powdered bleach or liquid color-safe bleach, should not be used in the bleach compartment. Other types of bleach may be released at the wrong time in the wash cycle or may clog the dispenser, preventing the bleach from dispensing or causing the drawer to get stuck. Only pour liquid chlorine bleach into the bleach compartment and do not fill past the “Max” fill line.

    Releasing the Dispenser Drawer

    • The entire dispenser drawer may seem stuck when pulling the drawer out because the drawer will only extend to a certain point and stop. This is due to a lock mechanism in the rear of the drawer. Push down on the button located in the center rear of the drawer to release the lock and remove the dispenser completely from the washing machine.

    Cleaning the Bleach Compartment

    • If the bleach compartment is clogged or stuck in place, the dispenser drawer should be cleaned. Wash the drawer and the compartment inserts with warm water and a soft brush, scrubbing gently to remove product buildup or debris. Then wipe the detergent dispenser drawer opening with a clean cloth and dry the dispenser drawer and inserts with a towel. Replace all inserts in place in the dispenser and push the dispenser back into place.
