How to Fix a Leak in a Maytag Washer

Water leaks on your Maytag washer occur during the wash or rinse cycle, and leak from the washer's inlet hoses or around the washer's door while the machine is in use. The inlet hoses connect hot and cold water from your home's water supply line to the washer, while leaks around the washer's door are typically due to space appearing around the door's seal. A water leak is fixable through a combination of routine maintenance and regular cleaning, both of which help cleaning performance and extend the life of the washer.

Instructions

    • 1

Place four thick towels around the washer to catch any leaking water.

    • 2

Touch "Power" to cancel the currently running cycle. Turn the washer's knob to "Rinse, Drain & Spin" to clear out the washer's water.

    • 3

Open the washer's door and wipe down the seal with a damp cloth. Detergent buildup causes the washer to leak when the door's seal cannot properly suction to the washer's door opening.

    • 4

Pull out the washer from the back of the wall. Turn it around to access the water supply line.

    • 5

Place the wrench around the hot water inlet hose's coupling. Slowly turn the wrench clockwise to tighten the hose's connection.

    • 6

Repeat the coupling tightening process for the cold water inlet hose. Avoid over tightening the connection as this can cause the coupling to crack. Stop turning the wrench once the coupling stops moving to secure the hose without damaging it.

    • 7

Turn the cycle knob to the desired wash cycle setting and push "Power" to restart the cleaning cycle.
