How to Get to the Motor in a Frigidaire Dryer

Frigidaire electric clothes dryers use a motor to turn the drive belt that rotates the laundry drum. The motor mounts near the front of the Frigidaire to a bracket built into the bottom frame of the appliance. To test, remove or replace the motor, you'll need to remove the front panels. This task takes less than half an hour using hand-held tools. Follow the provided safety precautions to prevent risk of electric shock. The Frigidaire dryer carries 240 volts of electricity.

Instructions

    • 1

Slide the Frigidaire forward far enough to reach and unplug the power cord from the wall.

    • 2

Remove the two screws at the bottom of the kick plate in front of the Frigidaire. The plate slides downward, then lifts out. Looking inside, you can now see the motor on the right-hand side at the bottom, although it is not yet accessible.

    • 3

Slip a putty knife into the crack in the left and right corners of the dryer top where it fits against the front panel. Push the knife into each corner to release the spring clip and disengage the top.

    • 4

Take out the screws on the left and right edges of the front panel and pull forward no more than six inches.

    • 5

Unplug the wires from the door switch on the back of the front panel. Set the panel out of the way. You can now reach the motor and mounting bracket at the bottom of the Frigidaire on the left.
