How to Replace a Kenmore 80 Igniter

Your Kenmore 80 gas dryer uses an igniter to light the gas supply and create heat. This igniter is a fragile piece of equipment and it can break or simply wear out over time. If your Kenmore 80 starts but does not get hot, chances are the igniter either has failed or is beginning to fail. You can purchase a replacement igniter for your Kenmore 80 at an authorized parts center and replace it yourself.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the Kenmore 80 gas dryer and turn off the gas supply to the unit. Never work on the dryer with the gas or electricity still connected.

    • 2

Remove the lint screen from the dryer. Find the two screws on the top of the cabinet and remove them.

    • 3

Lift the front corners of the cabinet top, then press a putty knife against the clips on the left and right to disengage them. Rotate the cabinet top up and place it against the wall.

    • 4

Locate the door switch connector and remove it from the harness connector. Open the door of the dryer, then remove the two screws that secure the door switch in place. Remove the door switch and set it aside.

    • 5

Remove the screw that secures the igniter to the burner assembly. The burner assembly is located on the left hand side of the Kenmore 80 dryer as you look at it from the front. Slide the igniter out of its slot in the burner assembly. Secure the new igniter with the retaining screw, then reassemble and test the dryer.
