How to Remove the Seal on a Front Load Kenmore Washer

Kenmore front load washing machines use a heavy rubber seal around the front door for loading and unloading clothes. The seal, or gasket, prevents water from leaking out of the appliance during the wash cycle and the high-speed spin cycle. Over time the seal may wear out and begin to crack, requiring replacement, or you may need to access the washer tub. The seal must first be removed before you can perform either task. Removing the seal takes less than 10 minutes to do.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the washer's power cord from the wall as a safety precaution.

    • 2

Pull open the door on your front load washer and swing it out of the way.

    • 3

Grip the lip of the seal near the top of the door opening and pull on it gently. Slip the tip of a flat head screwdriver under the seal and push down on the screwdriver handle gently to raise the wire retainer.

    • 4

Pull the wire retainer off of the seal, working either clockwise or counterclockwise to ease the wire from behind the lip on the seal.

    • 5

Press the tab at the top of the door frame to release the top of the seal from the interior of the washer on the side facing the tub. Pull gently on the seal until you can see the rear wire retainer.

    • 6

Pull off the seal, either clockwise or counterclockwise, to free it from the rear wire retainer.

    • 7

Remove the seal and the wire retainer from your Kenmore washer.
