How to Install a Baffle in a Maytag Washer

The plastic baffles clipped and screwed to the inside of a Maytag washing machine are used to tumble clothes during the course of each wash. Acting like paddles, the baffles are placed under strain with each rotation of the drum and sometimes break or detach as a result. To access the screw and clip holes used to mount the baffle, you will have to remove the top panel of the washing machine and the dispenser hose.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the washing machine, and move it a few inches away from the wall, giving yourself enough room to access the screws at the top of the back panel. Remove the pair of screws attached to the top of the washer, slide the top panel backward then lift upward to remove the panel from the appliance.

Locate the rubber hose entering the top of the washing machine's drum, and remove it from its hole. Spin the drum by hand until the screw hole for the baffle lines up with the dispenser hose hole.

    • 3

Hook the new baffle onto the clips inside the drum by lining up the holes and pulling forward. Insert the baffle screw into the baffle hole in the drum and tighten. The baffle is now fastened in place.

Push the dispenser hose back into its original location, and place the lid back on the washing machine. Pull the lid toward the front to lock it in place before replacing the screws on the rear panel.
