How to Remove Front Covers From Kenmore Washers & Dryers

Maintaining or repairing Kenmore washers and dryers often requires gaining access to the insides of their respective cabinets. Dryer service, including belt replacement, demands that you first remove the Kenmore's front panel. Washing machine maintenance, such as seal inspection, is only possible after removing the front panel. Start any repair or maintenance by properly removing the front panels of your laundry appliances to ensure safety and easy access to the interior components in need of repair.

  1. Kenmore Dryer Front Panel Removal

    • 1

      Unplug the dryer's power cord from the wall outlet for safety.

      Remove the screws along the rear upper edge of the top panel with a socket and drive or Phillips-head screwdriver. Lift the top panel off and set it aside.

      Depress the clip on the inside of the dryer's cabinet near the front left corner and pull the control panel from the front of the dryer. Disconnect the control panel wiring harness to free the panel and set it aside.

      Remove the two screws at either end of the circuit board bracket with the screwdriver. Lift the bracket from the dryer's cabinet and rest it away from the cabinet, over the back of the dryer's rear panel.

      Remove the two control bracket screws from either side of the dryer with the screwdriver. One screw on each side is located on the top of the bracket while the bottom screws are located on the front face of the bracket. Remove the bracket and set it aside.

      Remove the screws at the lower corners of the dryer's front side with the screwdriver. Pull the bottom of the smaller bottom panel from the dryer and down to release it from the front of the dryer. Set the small panel aside. Reach into the lower right corner of the dryer's cabinet and disconnect the two wiring harnesses.

      Remove the screws at the corners of the remaining front panel with the screwdriver.

      Open the dryer's door. Remove the screws at the bottom of the opening with a screwdriver. Pull the front panel from the dryer's cabinet.

      Remove the two screws at the bottom corners of the panel concealing the dryer's drum with the screwdriver. Loosen the two screws at the top of the panel.

      Remove the screws from the blower housing located on the left side of the dryer's cabinet. Lift the bulkhead panel and pull it away from the dryer's cabinet.

      Unplug the washer's power cord from the wall outlet for safety.

      Rotate the control panel out of your way. Find the screws that hold the panel in place atop the washer. You may have to pry the end caps from the panel to reveal the screws. Remove the screws with a Phillips-head screwdriver and rotate the control panel up and toward the rear of the washer.

      Disconnect the wiring harness connecting the control panel to the main washing machine cabinet.

      Pry the clips holding the control panel to the top of the washer's cabinet from the top panel with a flat screwdriver.

      Stand in front of the washer and tilt the entire cabinet toward you. Grip the cabinet and pull it away from the washing machine.
