A Clinking Sound in a Samsung Dryer

Some level of noise with your Samsung dryer is normal during use. If the appliance develops a clinking sound, the noise is likely one you can stop. You do not need to be a dryer expert to troubleshoot the noise and take measures to stop it on your own.
  1. Loose Objects

    • Stop your dryer so that you can look inside the drum. Loose objects, such as coins and buttons, may be in with your laundry. This commonly happens when things fall out of pockets or off the items in the laundry. As the dryer tumbles, the loose objects will clink against the sides of the drum. If you see any of these objects in the drum, removing them should stop the clinking sound you are hearing.

    Gas Valve or Heating Element

    • During the drying cycle, the heating element or gas valve cycles on and off repeatedly. As this happens, it makes a noise each time. This noise is completely normal and expected during dryer use. You cannot make it stop or quieter.

    Laundry Items

    • If your load of laundry has items that have metal buckles, buttons or snaps, you can hear a clinking sound. This happens because the metal pieces hit up against the dryer while it is tumbling. This is a completely normal occurrence. The only way to prevent it is not to dry anything with metal pieces in your dryer.

    Leveled

    • When the dryer’s adjustable leveling feet are extended too much, it can cause the unit to vibrate. If the legs are not adjusted so that the dryer is sitting level, it can also cause the unit to vibrate. If the dryer is vibrating up against something metal, such as the washer, it can cause a clinking sound. Make any necessary adjustments of the feet by turning them counterclockwise to retract them and clockwise to loosen them. Samsung recommends setting your dryer at the same height as your washer.
