How to Replace a Handle on a Kenmore HE Front Loading Dryer

The handle on a Kenmore HE front-load dryer receives constant use and so is subject to wear. If the handle breaks or is worn, you will be unable to access the drum to add or remove clothes. You might also find that the dryer reports an error when it tries to begin a cycle because the strike is not making good contact with the door switch. Replacing the handle is a relatively easy task.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the door of the dryer to reveal the five screws holding the hinge to the cabinet. Hold the door and remove all of the screws except the one second from the bottom. This screw only needs to be loosened. Set the other screws aside. Lift the door firmly upward and pull it forward to separate it from the body of the dryer.

    • 2

Place the door on a soft surface with the inner window facing upward. Remove the screws at the one-, three-, five-, seven-, nine- and 11-o'clock positions. Lift the inner part of the door out of the outer section and set it aside. Place the screws next to it.

    • 3

Remove the pair of screws behind the door handle. Lift the handle from the outer part of the door. Screw the new handle in place. Use the screws from the old handle, if possible.

    • 4

Set the inner part of the door in place. Insert the screws you removed previously and tighten them. Hang the door back in place on the loose screw remaining from Step 1. Tighten this screw. Add the remaining screws and tighten them to secure the door in place.
