Maytag Atlantis Repair Problems

The Maytag Atlantis washing machine is no longer manufactured by the Maytag Corporation, which can make getting the washer repaired more difficult if the warranty has expired or Maytag no longer supports washer repairs for this model. This leaves many owners responsible for their own repairs for many issues that might occur with the washing machine, but the good news is that some basic troubleshooting can fix many repair problems without technical assistance.

Instructions

    • 1

Reconnect the power cord if the Atlantis washing machine does not power on. If the power cord is plugged into an outlet, try resetting or replacing the circuit breaker or fuse, as needed, to restore power to the appliance.

    • 2

Turn the hot and cold water faucets on fully if no water enters the machine. Disconnect the water hoses from the washing machine and clean the inlet screens to clear away any possible blockages then use a wrench to firmly secure the hoses to the machine. Straighten out the hoses if they are kinked or bent in any way.

    • 3

Turn the control knob to a wash cycle then pull the dial out if the washer has power and water but is not agitating. Remember to keep the lid shut and note that the washer will pause several times during any given cycle, which is normal.

    • 4

Lower the drain hose if the washer won’t drain and the hose has been installed more than 8 feet high since this height prevents water from draining correctly. Straighten out the drain hoses and check the household drains for other signs of drainage issues. Call a plumber if other drains are clogged as well.

    • 5

Open the washer lid and distribute items evenly around the washing machine tub if the washer stops suddenly and the clothes are still very wet. The washing machine is programmed to stop when unbalanced. Remove some items if the basket is overloaded and do not let clothes get wrapped around the agitator. Increase the spin speed to help remove more water from the washing machine then turn the control dial to “Regular/Whites” and pull the dial out to start the machine.

    • 6

Push the drain hose an additional inch into the drainpipe if water is leaking out of it. If the water hoses are leaking, tighten the connection at the water valve and faucet. Do not overload the washing machine if water leaks out of the tub and never pre-soak items more than 30 minutes at a time.

    • 7

Place the included rubber feet on the legs if the washing machine is very noisy during use and adjust the feet until each foot is in contact with the floor. Slide a 3/4-inch piece of plywood under the washer if the floor is too weak for the washer and is bowing. Reduce the load size to prevent vibration due to overloading.

Check the household water heater if the washing machine fills with the wrong temperature water and turn the water heater to a minimum of 120 degrees Fahrenheit. Clean the water hose filter screens and make sure the hot water hose is attached to the hot water faucet and the cold water hose is connected to the cold water faucet.
