How to Clean a Kenmore Calypso Washer Drain Pump

The Kenmore Calypso washer uses a drain pump to remove water after the wash or rinse cycle finishes, and clogs over time if thick or poor-quality detergent is used during the cleaning cycle. Cleaning the drain pump requires running a hot wash cycle on the washer with bleach to loosen residue and flush it through the pump. A clean drain pump quickly eliminates water after the wash or rinse cycle is finished, and audibly drains the water from the washer's drum to indicate proper functioning.

Instructions

    • 1

Open the Kenmore Calypso washer's lid, and remove any clothing currently stored in the washer. Place the clothes in an empty laundry basket until the drain pump is cleared.

    • 2

Fill the measuring cup with 1 cup of liquid chlorine bleach. Pour the bleach slowly into the washer's dispenser, located on the top left side of the washer's opening.

    • 3

Push "Normal" in the cycle section on the front of the washer's control panel. Push "Wash/Rinse Temp" on the control panel until "Hot/Cold" is highlighted.

    • 4

Push "Wash Time" on the control panel to select a normal wash time. Close the washer's lid and push "Start" to begin the interior cleaning process, which cleans the washer's drum and pushes the hot water and bleach solution through the drain pump.
