My Samsung Washer Is Leaking Detergent From the Dispenser

When detergent and water are leaking from the dispenser in a Samsung washing machine, it could mean one of several issues is happening. Luckily, each issue is easy to fix and usually involves changing how you use your washer and the type of detergent you use in your machine. Troubleshoot the cause of the leaking detergent before attempting any fixes yourself.
  1. Type of Detergent

    • Several Samsung washing machines are designed for high efficiency (HE) and require special detergent. This type of detergent requires less foam to clean the clothes. If you accidentally use regular detergent in an HE machines, it can cause over-sudsing and the excess detergent can leak out from both the washing machine door and the detergent dispenser. Samsung washing machine owners should always consult their owner’s manual prior to starting a load for the first time to make sure they are using the correct detergent and the correct amount.

    Detergent Drawer Not Closed

    • If the detergent dispenser drawer isn’t closed completely, it can cause the detergent to leak out of the dispenser during the wash cycle. In newer models, this problem has been rectified since the washer won’t start if the dispenser drawer isn’t closed all the way. However, if you have an older model, always make sure the drawer is closed before starting the wash cycle.

    Siphon Cap

    • Samsung washing machines have a detergent dispenser with separate compartments for bleach, detergent and fabric softener. Each compartment has a siphon cap that allows the various liquids to be dispensed properly, and it also prevents them from mixing together. If any of the siphon caps are missing or loose, it can cause the dispenser to leak. The siphon cap in question will need to be replaced before the leaking will stop. You may need to order a replacement directly from Samsung.

    Considerations

    • If you used too much laundry detergent, no matter if it is the HE kind or regular, it may leak out when the water enters the drawer to dispense the detergent to the clothes. The detergent can also leak when the dispenser is clogged. If this happens, remove the dispenser by pushing down on the release lever, located at the top of the open drawer, and pulling the drawer out completely. Rinse out each of the compartments before replacing the drawer.
