How to Fix a Kenmore Washer 90 Series That Does Not Remove Water

The Kenmore 90 series washing machine is a popular model that is in service in many homes. If you have one of these machines and it is not removing the water from the tub at the proper time, the problem is most likely a malfunctioning water pump. The water pump sits at the bottom of the tub and is connected to it by a hose. Another hose is connected to the pump's outlet and carries the water outside the washer.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug your Kenmore washing machine from the wall outlet. Unfasten the water supply hoses from the shutoff valves using a pair of slip-joint pliers to unscrew them counterclockwise. Remove the drain hose from the stationary tub or drain. Pull the washing machine away from the wall far enough so you can access the rear comfortably.

    • 2

Remove the screws that secure the rear panel using a Phillips screwdriver. Turn the screws counterclockwise to loosen them. Lift the panel off the rear of the washer to expose the interior parts.

    • 3

Locate the pump, which is at the bottom left side of the tub. The pump has two hoses attached to it. One hose runs to the tub and the other runs outside the machine.

    • 4

Loosen the clamps around the end of each hose by turning the clamp screws counterclockwise. Pull the hoses off their respective ports once the clamps are loose enough.

    • 5

Pull off the wiring clip using a pair of needle-nose pliers to squeeze the sides together and detach it from the pump.

    • 6

Unscrew the retaining screws that secure the pump to its bracket and dispose of the old pump.

    • 7

Set the new pump in place in the same position as the old one occupied. Secure it to its bracket with the screws and snap the wiring clip into the receptacle. Attach the hoses, ensuring that the hose to the tub is connected to the port labeled as the input and the drain hose is connected to the one labeled as the output. Replace the rear panel and push the washer back in place. Reattach the water supply hoses, place the drain hose in the stationary tub or drain and plug in the electrical cord.
