How to Remove the Case From a Hotpoint Washer

Hotpoint is an American company that manufactures large home appliances. Many parts inside a Hotpoint washing machine can be serviced or replaced, should the need arise. The internal workings of the machine are enclosed within a steel case that at first looks impenetrable from the outside. Removal of certain panels of the case in the correct sequence will allow you complete access to any parts that may need attention in your machine.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the washing machine power cord from the electrical outlet.

    • 2

Insert the edge of a metal putty knife in the seam between the top panel and the front panel of the washer approximately 6 inches from the machine's outer edge. Pull out on the top of the front panel once the hidden retaining clip releases. Repeat to release the retaining clip on the opposite side of the front panel. Rotate the top of the panel outwards from the machine slightly. Raise the panel straight up and remove it from the washer.

    • 3

Remove the top panel retaining screws on each side of the lower edge of the top panel with a nut driver. Rotate the front of the top panel upwards slightly to disengage it from the hidden retaining clips. Pull the panel toward you slightly. Pull apart the lid switch wiring connector at the rear of the panel. Remove the top panel from the washer.

    • 4

Turn off the shut-off valves that supply water to the washer. Loosen the water supply hoses from the back of the machine with a pair of pliers, then screw them off manually. Have a towel handle to catch water spills. Lower the top of the washer drain hose into a bucket and allow any water to drain from the washer. Remove the two drain hose retaining screws from the backside of the washer with a nut driver. Pull the drain hose straight out of the back of the machine and set it aside.

    • 5

Locate the two washer pump retaining screws at the bottom of the front of the machine on the right side. Remove the screws with a nut driver.

    • 6

Place a blanket or furniture pad on the floor in back of the washer. Tilt the machine over so the back of the washer is resting on the blanket or pad. Remove all but one of the retaining screws that secure the bottom panel to the machine with a nut driver. Hold the panel with one hand to keep it from falling after the last screw is removed. Remove the last screw and rotate the top of the panel downwards. Remove the panel from the machine.
