How to Raise the Height of Dryers

A dryer shakes, rattles and wobbles uncontrollably when its feet are not level with the floor, as the dryer requires an even surface to maintain a quiet performance while in use. Many dryers come with adjustable feet that allow easy adjustment to raise the height of one or both sides of the dryer without heavy labor. A dryer that continues to shake after it is leveled requires a professional diagnosis to determine the cause of the wobbling, as the dryer may be defective and require replacement parts.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the dryer from its power source and remove all clothes from the dryer's drum.

    • 2

Set a level on top of the dryer and check with the level from side to side and front to back.

    • 3

Place a wood block underneath the dryer to raise it off its legs. Do this once for the front and then move the block to the back when you are adjusting the rear legs.

    • 4

Turn the wrench's adjustment piece to tighten the grip around the dryer's legs. Usually you turn the legs clockwise to raise the dryer but check your manual. Check with the level again.

    • 5

Place the wrench around the back leg of the dryer and turn it counterclockwise to raise it to the equal height of the front leg.

    • 6

Check the level on top of the dryer to determine the dryer's balance. The level's fluid moves to the center to indicate that the surface is evenly lifted.
