Ensure the washing machine is plugged in and the circuit breaker for the home is not tripped. Turn the circuit breaker to the "On" position if it is turned off.
Unplug the machine. Remove the screws from each side of the control panel. Slide a putty knife under each side and push the control panel back. Remove any screws from the washer body and pull it forward to release the body from the rest of the machine.
Locate the lid switch on top of the machine. Pull out the wires connecting the lid switch. Set your voltmeter to the "X1" setting. Place a probe onto each terminal of the switch. Press down the button on the switch. It should read infinity or zero. A faulty switch will not tell the agitator to spin. Replace it with a new one.
Check the drive belt wrapped around the washer drum. If it is ripped or worn, replace it using the belt diagram on the motor housing.
Inspect the pulleys the belt is running along. Spin the wheels to ensure they are rolling properly. If not, the arms need to be replaced.
Pull the top off the agitator inside the tub. Remove the nut from the center using a socket wrench. Lift up on the agitator to remove it from the unit. Flip the agitator upside down and inspect the gear and seal. Replace the gear and seal if broken.
