How to Remove a Heater Assembly From a Whirlpool Duet Dryer

Manufactured by the Whirlpool Corporation, the Duet dryer is a large-capacity, high-efficiency appliance with nine automatic drying cycles, five temperature control settings and a noise-reduction feature designed to ensure quiet operation. When the dryer malfunctions and fails to produce heat, you may need to locate and remove the heater assembly to troubleshoot or repair its components. Removing the heater assembly from a Whirlpool Duet dryer can be done without previous dryer repair experience.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the dryer or switch the corresponding circuit breaker to the "Off" position to disconnect the electrical supply to the appliance. Turn the gas supply valve to the "Off/Closed" position if you have a Whirlpool Duet gas dryer.

    • 2

Remove the two hex-head screws from the bottom edge of the dryer's toe panel. Pull the panel toward you and down to clear the top retaining clips. Set aside the removed toe panel and screws.

    • 3

Locate the heater assembly in the bottom right corner of the dryer cabinet. Remove the hex-head screw from the shield that covers the heater assembly. Set aside the removed shield and screw.

    • 4

Detach the two wires connected to the heater assembly. Firmly pull on the wire connectors to free them from their terminals. Use needle-nose pliers to free the wires if you see corrosion on the terminals or connectors.

    • 5

Remove the hex-head screw from the left side of the heater assembly. Set aside the screw and slide the heater component out of the assembly housing.

    • 6

Take out the two hex-head screws at the bottom front of the assembly housing to remove it as well.
