Cleaning a Dryer Booster Fan

Adding a dryer booster fan to your dryer’s exhaust duct can help pull the hot air from the dryer and speed the drying time of your clothes. The booster fan is helpful in situations where the dryer location requires a dryer duct over 25 feet long. Anything over 25 feet can lead to the build-up of moisture inside the duct, causing lint to accumulate along the walls, and eventually block the duct. Check the booster fan every six months after installing it to ensure the fan blades do not become encrusted in lint.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the dryer booster fan from the wall outlet, or turn off the circuit breaker supplying electricity to the booster fan.

    • 2

Loosen the screw on the duct clamp holding the duct to the bottom, or inlet side, of the dryer booster fan. Some booster fans have screws that hold an access panel to the side of the fan housing. Remove the access panel to access the fan.

    • 3

Reach inside the booster fan to wipe the blades with a soft cloth. Do not bend the fan blades, as this could damage the fan motor over time.

    • 4

Replace the duct onto the bottom of the dryer booster fan, or replace the side panel on the fan housing. Tighten the screw on the duct clamp to secure the dryer duct to the booster fan.

    • 5

Return the power to the dryer booster fan.
