How to Install Washer Bolts on a Whirlpool Front Loader

Moving a weighty washing machine between locations is arduous at the best of times, but it can be particularly frustrating if you unpack the appliance at the other end to find the shock absorbers have been damaged by the motion of the transport truck. Installing the washer's shipping bolts before you move stabilizes the drum and prevents it knocking around as a result of sudden jolts. Not surprisingly, Whirlpool recommends hiring a company technician to install the shipping bolts, but with a little skill you can save the money and do the job yourself.

Things You'll Need

  • Slotted screwdriver
  • 13-millimeter wrench

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the washing machine or remove the power supply at the appropriate fuse or circuit breaker.

    • 2

Locate the four shipping bolt covers on the back of the washing machine. There are two at the top and two at the bottom. Pry off the covers with a slotted screwdriver.

    • 3

Insert the four shipping bolts into the washer; the shorter two go in the upper holes. Once in, slide the bolt to the right into the narrowest section of the hole.

    • 4

Tighten the shipping bolts into position with a 13-millimeter wrench. The washing machine cannot be used until the bolts are removed.
