How to Change a Flow Valve in a Whirlpool Washer Model WFW9200SQ00

When your Whirlpool front-load WFW9200SQ00 washer fails to fill with water, the most likely culprit is the water flow valve attached to the back of the machine. The valve receives an electrical signal from the control panel that lets the valve know whether to open the cold valve, hot valve or both, depending on the wash temperature you choose. Failure to change the valve on your washing machine could lead to damaged clothing by allowing the wrong temperature of water to fill the washtub.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the Whirlpool front-load washer model WFW9200SQ00 from the electrical wall outlet. Pull the washer from the wall, so you may access the rear of the front-load machine.

    • 2

Turn the hot and cold washer water supply lines off. Sit a bucket or large bowl on the ground behind the washer. Turn the supply lines attached to the back of the Whirlpool washer counterclockwise to disconnect them from the machine’s flow valves. Place the ends of the supply lines into the bucket or bowl to catch any water caught in the lines.

    • 3

Remove the plastic cabinet plugs from the rear of the washing machine if your Whirlpool washer has these attached. Lift up and out to remove them.

    • 4

Remove the screws holding the back panel onto the Whirlpool WFW9200SQ00. Push the panel down towards the floor, then pull out on the panel to remove it from the machine.

    • 5

Remove the screws along the top back lip of the machine that secure the top cover onto the machine. Pull the cover toward you to remove it from the machine.

    • 6

Look inside the machine for the four wires connected to the water flow valves. Use masking tape to label the location of the wires for the hot side of the valve as H1 and H2, then label the wires for the cold side of the valve as C1 and C2. Gently slide the connectors attached to the ends of the wires off the current flow valves.

    • 7

Loosen the connector holding the internal water hose to the flow valve. Pull the hose from the valve, leaving the connector on the hose.

    • 8

Remove the screws holding the water flow valve to the back brace on the rear of the machine. Pull the valve from the machine and discard.

    • 9

Insert the replacement water flow valve into the machine. Attach the valve to the back brace with the screws you removed from the original valve.

    • 10

Push the internal water hose onto the valve. Tighten the connector on the hose to secure it to the valve.

    • 11

Push the wire connectors you removed from the original water flow valve onto the spade connectors attached to the replacement valve.

    • 12

Replace the cover onto the top of the Whirlpool WFW9200SQ00 washer. Replace the back cover onto the machine.

    • 13

Attach the water supply lines to the threaded ends of the new valve. Plug the Whirlpool front-load washer into the wall outlet. Turn on the hot and cold washer water supply faucets. Push the washer back against the wall in your laundry area.
