My Frigidaire Front Loader Is Not Emptying Water

When your washing machine is unable to drain at the end of a cycle, leaks are likely, and these can cause severe damage to your home. Determining why your washer won't empty can help you repair the problem before it becomes more serious. If you own a Frigidaire front-loading washer, several things might be preventing your washer from not draining at the end of cycle, including clogs in the drain pipe and too many suds.
  1. Check Detergent

    • If the water remaining in your Frigidaire front loading washer is full of soap bubbles, your detergent could be causing too many suds. Frigidaire recommends using a high efficiency detergent with the front-loading washer because the detergent is designed to produce few suds. High efficiency detergents are usually marked with a small “HE” symbol on the label. If you are using liquid detergent, follow the guideline on your washer’s dispenser and do not fill the cup past the max fill line. When using a powdered detergent, remove the cup and add the powder to the dispenser chamber itself.

    Check Drain Hose Standpipe

    • For the water to drain properly from your front-loading washer, the drain hose standpipe must be at the correct height. If the pipe is too tall, the water cannot make its way through the drain hose. Consult your owner’s manual to determine the maximum and minimum heights for the pipe. In most cases, the maximum height is 96 inches, while the minimum height is 24 inches. If your washer’s drainpipe does not meet these requirements, adjust its height so your washer can drain properly.

    Check Drain Hose for Obstructions

    • Your Frigidaire front-loading washer’s drain hose provides a path for water to exit the machine at the end of a washing cycle. If the hose has a clog or obstruction, the water cannot drain from the washer so it remains in the tub even after the spin cycle. Check your drain hose for clogs or kinks that might prevent water from flowing through it freely. If you find a kink, simply straighten the hose to allow the water to flow. If you suspect a clog, turn off the washer so you can disconnect the hose and clean it.

    Check House Drain Pipe

    • If you are using the proper detergent and the washer’s drain hose and standpipe are in proper working order, a clog in your home’s drainpipes may be preventing your washer from emptying at the end of its cycle. Depending on the location of the clog, you may be able to clear the pipes yourself. However, if the clog is deep or you are unsure of the proper procedure for clearing it, contact a plumber to clear the pipes so the water can drain from the washer.
