How to Replace the Door Lock Switch Assembly on an AFT6000FSO

The AFT6000FSO is a front-loading clothes washer sold under the Frigidaire brand. The door lock switch assembly keeps the door closed during the wash cycle to prevent water from coming out the front. The switch has a sensor that detects whether the door is closed and locks once you turn the controls to the wash cycle. If the door is not closed, the door lock switch assembly will not allow you to start washing your clothes. A damaged door lock switch assembly will prevent the sensor from detecting the door. You will have to replace the entire assembly to correct this defect.

Instructions

    • 1

Disconnect the power cord from the electrical outlet before performing any work on the washing machine.

    • 2

Pull the spring and clamp that holds the boot seal in place by using the needle-nose pliers. Place the clamp and spring in a nearby location. Grab the boot seal with your fingers where it covers the door lock switch assembly, and pull it away from the door lock. Use the needle-nose pliers if you cannot pull the boot seal with your fingers.

    • 3

Unscrew the door lock switch assembly mounting screws. Hold the boot seal out of the way, while you pull the door lock switch assembly out of its two slots. Wiggle the switch until it pulls completely out of the washing machine.

    • 4

Remove the two wires on the back of the door switch and push them onto the new switch assembly. Slide the new switch assembly back in place and screw it down with the mounting screws. Push the boot seal back in place until it is seated. Reconnect the clamp and spring with the pliers.

Close the door and inspect the seal to determine if it is installed properly. Plug the AFT6000FSO power cord back into the wall outlet and run the washer through one cycle.
