How to Adjust Tension on a Frigidaire Washing Machine

Frigidaire is the manufacturer of home appliances, including ovens, refrigerators and washing machines. If your Frigidaire washing machine is making noise as if it were working, but is not working properly, it may be an issue with the drive belt. The drive belt transfers power from the motor to the pump and agitator. Over time, the drive belt on the washing machine may tighten, become loose or slip out of place. To fix this, you must adjust the tension on the belt to get the machine properly working.

Instructions

    • 1

Pull the washing machine away from the wall and dryer. Unplug the machine.

    • 2

Remove the two screws holding the front panel in place. Remove the front panel and set it aside.

    • 3

Tip the washer onto its side with the help of a second person. Place towels beneath the washer before tilting in case of excess water spillage.

    • 4

Remove the clamps on the pump coupling, which is the leathery or rubber part that connects the water pump to the motor.

    • 5

Loosen the bolts on the motor mount and shift it inward if you wish to relieve tension in the Frigidaire washing machine. Tighten the motor mount bolts to increase the tension on the belt.

    • 6

Replace the pump coupling clamps. Lift the washing machine back to its upright position. Reattach the front panel and move the washing machine back into place.
