How to Repair a Whirlpool Dryer That Is Not Blowing Heat

At the point when the warm air stops, the Whirlpool dryer turns into nothing but a clothes tumbler that has no effect on the wet clothes inside. Though Whirlpool clothes dryers require a number of components to keep the heat circulating, only one major component generally provides the hot air -- the unit’s heating element. Troubleshooting a defective dryer takes a few steps and requires no professional assistance.

Instructions

    • 1

Clean the lint screen on the Whirlpool dryer. The screen should be cleaned after each use to keep it functioning properly.

    • 2

Check the temperature setting on the dryer. If the dryer is not set at its maximum temperature, switch to the max temperature, and run the dryer again. Put a dryer-safe item inside the unit, such as an article of clothing or a tennis ball. Turn on the dryer for five minutes, then pull out the item to see if it feels warm.

    • 3

Go to the breaker box in the home to check the breakers for the dryer. Unlike most appliances in the home, a dryer uses two separate breakers. Even if the drum still turns, the unit may not produce heat. If one of the breakers is off, turn it on.

    • 4

Move the dryer out from the wall, and unplug the unit from the power outlet. Remove the back panel of the dryer by taking out the screws that line the edges.

    • 5

Locate the cylindrical compartment with a metal piece and several coils on it. Note the location of all of the wires connected to the compartment. Disconnect the wires, using pliers if necessary. Remove the screw that holds the compartment in place, and pull it out of the dryer.

    • 6

Take out the screw that holds the coil, which is the heating element. Slide the heating element out. Replace the heating element with the new one, screw it back into place, and return the compartment to the dryer, reconnecting all of the wires in their proper positions.
