How to Repair a Stripped GE Dryer Knob

GE dryers have knobs that you use to adjust the dry time, change the dryer settings and turn the dryer on. The knobs are removable and replaceable. Over time, the interior of the knob can strip from use, which will cause the knob to fall off or just continue to turn without actually turning the switch underneath the actual knob. Although you cannot repair a stripped knob, you can replace it. The replacement only takes a minute or two.

Instructions

    • 1

Grasp the knob on the GE dryer and pull it toward you to remove the knob.

    • 2

Clamp the needle-nose pliers onto the small metal retainer that is on the switch’s stem.

    • 3

      Pull off the metal retainer.

    • 4

Line the new knob up to the stem and push it onto the stem until it snaps into place. The knob has a new metal retainer inside of it that clamps onto the stem.
