How to Lift a Washer Onto Risers

Placing a washer on risers makes it more accessible for the handicapped or elderly, and prevents unnecessary bending. Installing the plumbing and electricity before you lift it up onto the risers keeps the connections and the outlet more exposed. Once the washer is on top of the risers, it may become more difficult to access the back of the washer. As with most appliances, when lifting a washer as well as moving it, keep it upright to prevent damaging any internal components.

Move the appliance dolly next to the washer. Position one of two assistants on each side of the washer. Have them grip each side underneath the washer, lift the washer straight up and set it down in the middle on top of the dolly.

Roll the washer directly in front of the risers. Keep the washer upright at all times when moving it.

    • 3

Keep the washer on the appliance dolly. Install the hot water and cold water supply, the drain hose and the power cord, all as per the manufacturer's installation instructions.

    • 4

Position one of your assistants on each side of the washer.

    • 5

Have each of your two assistants bend down, place one hand underneath the washer at the front of his side and place his other hand underneath the washer at the back of his side.

    • 6

Have each assistant, holding onto the washer from underneath, lift the washer straight up, move sideways and place the washer down in the middle on top of the risers.

    • 7

Turn the leveling legs up or down to level the washer. Place a carpenter's level on top in the middle of the washer to verify that it's level, and adjust the legs as necessary.
