How to Repair a Kenmore Dryer's Internal Bias Thermostat

The internal bias thermostat in a Kenmore dryer is a thermostat part that controls the internal drying temperature, and is connected to the heating element in the rear of the dryer. If the dyer is getting too hot during a cycle, then the bias thermostat may not be stopping the dryer from reaching its peak temperature. You can remove the thermostat at any time to inspect it for damage and determine if the part needs to be fully replaced.

Instructions

    • 1

Move the Kenmore dryer away from the wall, and unplug the power cord from the wall outlet.

    • 2

Turn the gas supply valve on the back of the dryer to the "Off" position.

    • 3

Remove the nine hex head screws from the back panel using a hex head nut driver, then remove the panel.

    • 4

Locate the internal bias thermostat in the top middle area of the inside of the dryer, connected to the heater assembly.

    • 5

Check the wires to see if they are fully connected to the thermostat. If they are connected, then pull out the two wires from the internal bias thermostat using needle nose pliers.

    • 6

Remove the screw connected to the internal bias thermostat using a flathead screwdriver. Lift up and remove the entire thermostat part.

    • 7

Inspect the thermostat part for any cracks or broken pieces, and replace the part, if necessary.

    • 8

Insert the new internal bias thermostat into the same position, and reinsert the screws into the thermostat mounting plate.

    • 9

Reconnect the two wires connectors to the internal bias thermostat, then place the rear panel back on.

    • 10

Reinsert the nine hex head screws into the back panel, then turn the gas supply valve to the "On" position. Plug the power cord back into the wall outlet.
