How to Remove the Outlet on a Frigidaire Front Loading Washer

The outlet pipe, sometimes known as the drainpipe, is used to convey dirty water out of your Frigidaire front-loading washing machine and into the plumbing of your home. Sometimes materials such as lint and tangled threads washes out of the drum, becomes trapped in the drainpipe and causes a blockage. On Frigidaire washers, draining problems often are relayed to the user via an error code on the appliance's display. Removing the outlet pipe helps to clear obstructions.

Instructions

    • 1

Unplug the washing machine, pull the detergent drawer out of its slot and place it to one side. Remove the screws at the top of the rear panel, slide the top panel backward and remove it from the top of the washer.

    • 2

Remove the screws on either side of the washer behind the control panel, along with the three screws revealed by the absence of the detergent drawer. Pry the control panel up from the back to release the plastic tabs; unplug the wiring to remove the controls completely.

    • 3

Open the washer's door and roll up the rubber seal at the bottom of the door opening to reveal a metal loop with a clasp. Pull the metal loop out from behind the rubber seal with a pair of needle-nose pliers. Place the loop to one side and pry the rubber seal off the front panel all the way around the drum opening.

    • 4

Remove the screws above and below the door lock mechanism on the right side of the drum opening. With the help of a friend, tip the washer back and remove the four screws along the bottom of the front panel. Take out the four screws at the top of the panel, too.

    • 5

Pull the front panel up and out to disengage the nylon plugs left holding it in place. You now have access to the pump assembly inside the washing machine, below the drum. The outlet pipe begins at the drain pump.

    • 6

Place a towel beneath the drain pump; some water remains in the system even when the appliance is off. Pinch the ends of the metal clamp connecting the outlet pipe to the drain pump, then pull to separate the two. The outlet pipe can now be removed from the washing machine.
