Reinstalling a Clamp on the Front Door Seal of a Washing Machine

Front-load washing machines have a seal that surrounds the opening of the wash tub. The seal, commonly referred to as a "boot seal," ensures that a water-tight seal is formed when the door to the washing machine is closed. The seal is secured using a wire clamp and spring, which securely holds the boot seal in place. Often, this wire clamp and spring must be removed when performing repairs on the washing machine, especially when removing the front panel, or repairing the door latch. After the repairs are complete, it is imperative that the seal be properly installed to ensure that water does not leak from the washer.

Instructions

    • 1

Stretch the boot seal over the lip of the front panel, so that the seal properly sits on the panel.

    • 2

Hold the wire clamp and spring so that the spring is on the bottom.

    • 3

Place the top of the wire clamp onto the top of the outside of the boot seal.

    • 4

Run your fingers around both sides of the wire clamp, forcing it into position on the boot seal.

    • 5

Push down on the spring with both hands to expand it, allowing you to install the boot seal around the entire perimeter of the boot seal.

    • 6

Use a flat-head screwdriver to make any adjustments necessary to the wire clamp and spring, ensuring that it is installed flush around the entire seal.
