Removal of the Frigidaire Washer Basket

A broken washing machine can be an elusive foe for any DIY appliance owner. Believe it or not, your washing machine was meant to be taken apart, so don’t fear it. All you need is a little background in the proper way to disassemble the machine and you’ll have the washer basket out in no time. A Frigidaire wash basket comes out according to a standard method.
  1. Tools

    • Removing the washer basket from a Frigidaire washing machine requires some standard and some specialized tools. You can find the specialized tools at an appliance parts store. For removing the washer basket, you’ll need a putty knife, nut driver with magnetic sleeve, flat-head screwdriver and work gloves. You’ll also need a wash-basket bolt-removal tool.

    Safety

    • The first and most important thing to do is to completely unplug the machine from the power outlet. This will prevent your from being electrocuted while you are working. Next, turn off the water supply to the machine and unfasten the water hoses. Have a friend help you move the machine out so that you have easy access to all sides of the machine.

    Removing the Shell

    • Start by removing the top panel of the machine. This is done by sliding a putty knife under the top and releasing the pressure plates. Once you’ve released the two pressure plates, gently pull up and set the top panel against the back of the machine. Next, use the nut driver to remove the nuts holding the side and front panel in place. There will be three nuts total just inside the machine. Once you’ve removed those, pull the shell up and out.

    Removing the Washer Basket

    • Disconnect the basket sensors located in the front of the machine. Next, unscrew the center agitator and you’ll see the bolt holding the basket in place. Use the bolt removal tool to loosen and remove the bolt. Put work gloves on and carefully lift the wash basket out.
